Buford gets its name from Algernon Sidney Buford who was President of the Atlanta and Richmond Air-Line Railroad. Mr Buford was President of the railroad during this time of expansion and a lawyer by trade.
Buford has come a long way since its humble beginnings as a railway depot between Atlanta and Charlotte. Buford is now known as a key source of hydroelectric power in the State of Georgia and the metro Atlanta area while also being home to national and international companies alike. Buford is proud that it owns the utility systems that service the city along with having a totally independent school system.
